Chelsea Jacket
THE CHELSEA A little jacket with a long memory.
Some jackets are cut for boardrooms. The Chelsea is cut for your actual life — a collarless, fully lined short jacket that ends just below the waist, made to be thrown over a light sweater and worn out the door. Tweed makes it a classic. Leather makes it a statement.
Like everything at Couture Craft, the Chelsea is drafted to your measurements — not graded up from a fit model who isn't you. The silhouette is quietly precise: a clean round neckline, a boxy back cut on the fold, two-piece sleeves shaped the way European tailors have shaped them for a century, and pockets placed where a short jacket has always wanted them — riding the waist, the way the great French houses wore them.
Make it yours:
Front closure — five-button front, or a sporty separating zipper
Sleeve finish — buttoned vent, zip cuff, or a clean hem for your first jacket
Pockets — a tailored single welt, or a lined patch pocket with softly rounded corners
Every Chelsea, regardless of options:
Matching thread
Lightweight fusible interfacing, ½ yd (20 in wide) — covers the front facing, back neck facing, and whichever option pieces below apply
(Fabric itself: self 1⅝–1¾ yd @ 60 in, lining 1⅜ yd — the full table by width and size is in the instructions §0)
Then by configuration:
Choice | Notions added |
Button front | 5 buttons, 7/8 in (22 mm) |
Zipper front | 1 separating zipper — length printed on the pattern by size (18–19 in / 46–48 cm) |
Buttoned sleeve vent | 6 buttons, ⅝ in (15 mm) — three per sleeve |
Zip cuff | 2 closed-end zippers, 6 in (15 cm) |
Clean hem sleeve | nothing |
Welt pocket | nothing extra — welt and bag cut from your self and lining (uses a bit more of the interfacing for the welts and window patches) |
Patch pocket | nothing extra — self and lining (pocket pieces get interfaced from the same ½ yd) |
Always included:
Full lining, with a proper ease pleat and a hem that moves with you
Your choice of seam allowance — 5/8 in or 1 cm — one number, everywhere
Every mark printed: the welt window, dots, notches, and fold lines are on the pattern, so nothing depends on your measuring
Step-by-step instructions written to keep you company, not test you
Efficient Printing option: layered cut lines that save paper and taping
Skill level: adventurous beginner and up. If you can sew a straight seam and follow a dotted line, the Chelsea will teach you the rest.
